[Musica] Per condividere...NOFX!

In questo periodo natalizio in cui, teoricamente, si dovrebbe essere più coscienti ed altruisti, invece tutto rimane puntualmente uguale, se non peggio, vorrei proporvi questa canzone che mi piace molto.
Attenti al testo, perché merita davvero.

Beh, i NOFX sono sempre i NOFX, e i testi dei NOFX sono sempre i testi dei NOFX. Anche io preferisco la versione hardcore live (basterebbe quella, infatti, a rendere un capolavoro il loro ultimo cd), ma anche quella slow non è affatto male.

Rispondo con Leaving Jesusland, un'altra canzone dei NOFX sullo stesso tema, una canzone che da qualche tempo mi sta ossessionando perché è bellissima e ha un testo incredibile: ironico, irriverente, incazzato e profondo al tempo stesso.

Facciamo una sezione intera sui NOFX? Anzi no, meglio, dedichiamogli un forum :D

I testi dei NOFX sono sempre molto carini, spesso divertenti, ma anche socialmente impegnati e ricchi di riferimenti.

In questa canzone, ad esempio, parlano di:

Sean Hannity: ha un programma radio dove parla di religione e questioni politiche. Lui è un conservatore cattolico.

Ann Coulter: scrive per qualche giornale, è una commentatrice politica. Ha uno stile un po' particolare e ha fatto sempre dichiarazioni un po' strane. A quanto pare, qualche giorno dopo l'attacco alle due torri ha detto che andavano invasi i paesi degli attentatori, uccisi i loro leader e bisognava convertire tutti al cristianesimo. Insomma, cose così.

Columbus Day: è il giorno della scoperta dell'America da parte di Cristoforo Colombo. Molti si oppongo al suo festeggiamento per la crudeltà con cui sono stati trattati gli indiani nativi.

NRA: National Rifle Association, potentissima lobby americana che si batte per il diritto di possedere armi da fuoco e roba simile. Michael Moore ne parla nel suo primo documentario, Bowling at Columbine.

Cointelpro: COunter INTELligence PROgram, era un programma di investigazione con il compito di tenere d'occhio organizzazioni politiche ritenute "estreme". Alcuni pensano che sia ancora attivo.

Io conoscevo quasi tutti i riferimenti, ma quelli sconosciuti me li ero già andati a cercare.
Comunque è sempre difficile beccarli tutti, dato che la cultura americana cui i NOFX fanno riferimento qui non è così nota come lo è lì.

Personalmente, ho solo qualche dubbio sulla correttezza della condanna al Columbus Day, in quanto mi chiedo quanto sia effettivamente corretto giudicare con gli occhi e i valori morali di oggi i personaggi del passato (al giudizio critico di oggi non passerebbe indenne nessun imperatore o Re, ad esempio, per quando magnanimo possa essere stato), ma forse questa discussione meriterebbe un thread a parte ^^;

edit: mentre stavo scrivendo il Signor Carlo provava ad inserire il video di Don't call me white, per cui mi porto avanti col lavoro dicendo che anche quella è una canzone stupenda con un testo grandioso e originale eccetera eccetera =D

Nessuno ha citato quest'altra canzone dei NOFX - Re-Gaining Unconsciousness - davvero molto figa, non solo per il riferimento agli Asylum seekers (tema a me molto caro ).

Il testo fa riferimento allo stato in cui versa la democrazia (intendendo il concetto in via generale ed ampia), statunitense, evidentemente; a come i governanti abbiano "risolto" i problemi della nazione nella quasi più totale indifferenza della società ("We didn't raise our voice,
we didn't make a fuss."), inebetita davanti ai luccianti ed attraenti passatempi loro presentati("We used to worry 'bout big brother,
now we got a big father and an even bigger mother.")
; alla paura del "diverso" che spinge la gente a chiudersi, piuttosto che a capire ("how ya supposed to love your neighbor
with our minds and curtains closed?"); a come piuttosto che costruire la propria esistenza, seguendo ciò che davvero interessa e stimola, la massa preferisca accodarsi ("The sad truth is
you'd rather follow the school into the net
'cause swimming alone at sea
is not the kind of freedom that you actually want.") ed, infine, a come, in effetti, più che una società adulta e matura, la moderna popolazione statunitense assomiglia ad una massa di bambini finti adulti con il cervello nano ("a country of adult infants.

Mi domando, più che altro, ma quanto potranno essere conosciuti dalla società media statunitense. Cioè parliamo di un fenomeno di nicchia o di portata notevole? Qualcuno sa qualcosa?

Il video non c'entra niente, ma va beh.

Avete mai letto il testo? Io lo leggo per la prima volta, anche se già avevo intuito il significato a orecchio, ma leggendolo ho trovato diverse frasi geniali degne del miglior Fat Mike.

In generale direi che la canzone è contro le major e l'industria musicale, ma credo ci sia di più. Da qualche parte ho letto che il piano originale dei NOFX era far sì che la canzone venisse trasmessa in radio, perché sarebbe stato divertente -- secondo loro -- sentire una canzone alla radio che in un certo modo parlasse della sua caduta.

Tenendo a mente questa cosa della radio, mi spiego la prima frase della canzone, quella che viene tipo urlata prima della musica.

Ecco, questa frase sopra. Infatti nella canzone, all'inizio, si sente come un messaggio disturbato, tipo un'interferenza. Immagino che l'idea fosse di trasmetterla in radio e dare la sensazione che ci fosse un'emergenza, ma la voce rassicura che non è così :D

In grassetto le parti che mi piacciono o divertenti. Tipo nella prima frase in grassetto dice "mi dispiace terribilmente (che crolli): ero sarcastico, lascia che bruci :D

Questa parte poi è fantastica. Il "seven record deal" credo si riferisca ai contratti che impongono le major, del tipo che prendono una band e le dicono che deve fare un tot numero di album (tipo 7), a prescindere dal materiale che hanno, il che comporta diluire le canzoni buone su tanti album e riempire il cd con quello che capita.

E poi mi piace come usa le metafore sui dinosauri e la preistoria ed "extinction never felt so good" è una frase meravigliosa.
